Dallas Divide Medow - Colorado, Mid-Summer, Mid-Afternoon: Taking advantage of the monsoon driven storms that form over the Rockies each afternoon, I waited until the fore and mid ground was cloud shaded while the distant mountains in full sun. This provided a saturated low-contrast foreground with a dramatic, brightly-lit mountain backdrop adding depth and a distant visual focal reference. Format: 6x7, Lens: 50mm, Aperture: f8~11, Filters: Polarizer and 81B. Film: Velvia. - Mark Borneman
Spring Rain - South of Ft Bragg, CA: Shot through an open window from the front seat of a car while parked at an overlook on a dead-end road. The changing visibilities from the passing showers afforded different "feels" to the scene. Several shots were taken to capture these differences. Since the low light of the rainy day and the slow speed of the film required a fairly long exposure, the camera had to be braced using a tripod creatively adjusted to fit the cluttered shooting position inside the car. Format: 35mm, Lens: 100mm macro, Filters: none, Film: Fuji Velvia. - Mark Borneman
Weathered Fence - South of Ft. Bragg, CA - Spring; Low angle shot on partly cloudy afternoon. Lighting was diffused by the overcast, softening the shadows and allowing a broad coverage of details in all areas of the scene. The wedge of green grass on the bottom of the image balances the remaining picture elements as they are primarily in soft gray tones. Shooting the same scene on a very foggy morning or in golden sunset light would also yield interesting results. Format: 6x7, Lens: 50mm, Aperture: f16, Filter: None, Film: Velvia. - Mark Borneman.
