Lupine - Palomar Mountain State Park, CA: Using a long focal length lens and rather large aperture softened the background details and visually separated it from the main subject. An even longer focal length lens (250 to 360mm, medium format) would have even been more effective, but you can't use what you don't have. Format: 6x7, Lens: 180mm, Aperture: f8, Filter: Polarizer, Film: Velvia. - Mark Borneman.
Poppies - Antelope Valley, Ca. - Mark Borneman
Poppies - Just outside the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, Ca. The film was pushed to achieve two things; shorten exposure times to freeze the flower movements and slightly increase contrast on this slightly overcast day. By using a long lens close to the ground I was able to shoot though the flower fields and isolate a single bloom with the narrow depth of field. These flowers only come out when the sun's out, so sunrise and sunset pictures are out of the questions. Format: 35mm, Lens: 100-300mm at about 200mm, Filter: 81A warming filter, Aperture: f16, Film: Fuji Velvia pushed 1 stop. - Mark Borneman
